DESCRIPTION:Artist Bio Workshop For Creatives Facilitated by Richard Burroughs\nClass Dates: Sunday\, November 10 · 1 – 3pm EST \nTime: 1:00 – 3:00pm \nVenue: The Children’s Art Carnival \nThe bio is an important marketing tool and should be carefully crafted to bring the world closer to the artist. It tells the artist’s story\, building a connection between the person reading it and the artist. Unfortunately\, a clumsily written bio can work against an artist. A journalist\, art school\, gallerist\, or buyer can get bad vibes from a bad bio\, so this one-day workshop will show you how to get your vibes right with a bio that works for you. \nWe will talk about: \n\nChoosing/Shooting a bio picture\nWhat to include in an artist bio\nWhat to avoid when writing a bio\nWhen to update your bioAnd other bio-related topics. Expect to be able to write your bio after finishing this workshop.\n\n  \n\nThis event is open to the public. Online registration is required to participate. Suggested donation of $5 or pay-what-you-can. (Register with donation) \n\n\n\n  \nRichard Burroughs\n\n\n\n\nAbout the facilitator: \nRichard Burroughs is multi-hyphenate\, working across multiple industries. He is a journalist for BK Reader\, a digital daily news and information source covering Brooklyn. He covers the Brooklyn Nets\, the NY Liberty\, and sports-related stories\, and writes about music\, fashion\, and culture in Brooklyn. \nMr. Burroughs is an art curator who produces a traveling exhibit called Cover Lover Remix\, a group show where artists remix their favorite album covers. The last exhibition recently closed at Brooklyn Navy Yard and was a 1990s-themed edition of Cover Lover Remix. \nRich also works as an open format DJ\, getting all ages up and dancing at weddings and block parties\, or rocking late-night at bars and restaurants. An award-winning alum of the City College of New York with a BA and MFA in Studio Art\, Jwahir also facilitated TArt (Talking Art) Salon\, a CCNY student intellectual discussion group. An artist-educator with the Whitney Museum of American Art (until the pandemic)\, Jwahir is currently a studio artist-in-residence\, creative consultant for a long-running live Harlem music series\, and an arts and culture grant proposal storyteller for over 20 years. Jwahir (whose life is always better when she dances) is also the creative director of an innovative Harlem wellness+art initiative. \nThe Artist’s Voice is a monthly two-hour writing clinic where artists receive hands-on support in creating and editing documents.
