SUMMARY:Fabric Mosaic Workshop - for Adults Only
DESCRIPTION:Experience a warm\, welcoming adult-only workshop that begins with an exclusive tour of fiber artist and painter Tomo Mori’s inspiring studio. Enjoy an intimate presentation of Tomo’s latest artwork as she shares the story behind her unique technique—how it began in 2010 and evolved into her signature style. \nNext\, you’ll discover how to transform ordinary fabric scraps into beautiful tiles with plenty of helpful tips and tricks. After cutting your colorful shapes\, you’ll have fun designing and gluing your own unique collage using the mosaic technique. Every step is easy and accessible—perfect for beginners and creative explorers alike! \nThis special workshop sold out almost immediately last month and space is limited! Don’t miss this opportunity to learn directly from Tomo and experience her creative process up close. \nDate: Monday\, November 16\nTime: 6:30 to 8:30 pm\nFacilitator: Tomo Mori\nFor: Adults (21+)\nFee: $10 Per Adult \nRegistration is required to participate \nREGISTER \n \nNOTES:\nIf you would like to bring your own fabric\, you are welcome to do so. Non-stretch cotton fabric works the best. You can bring your own fabric scissors\, but we will have scissors\, brush\, gel medium\, and pre-painted canvas boards for everyone (included in the fee). \nAcrylic gel medium can be hard to remove once it sticks to your clothes\, so please wear or bring old T-shirts or an apron. This is a process/technique-based workshop\, so if you miss steps\, it will be difficult for the group; please try to arrive on time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nAbout the facilitator: \n\n\nTomo Mori\, born in Japan\, is a Harlem-based painter and fiber artist. After graduating from the Atlanta College of Art (now SCAD Atlanta)\, she spent over 11 years in the fast-paced world of an international news agency\, where her experiences ignited her mission as an artist. \n\nCurrently\, Tomo is thriving in the studio program at the Children’s Art Carnival in West Harlem. She was honored to be selected for the Winter Workspace Residency at Wave Hill in 2023\, following her participation in programs at IFPA/EFA in 2022 and Chashama in 2020 and 2016. \n\nHer captivating artwork has been showcased in numerous esteemed venues\, including Uptown Triennial 2026 at Wallach Art Gallery/Columbia University\, Golden Thread at South Street Seaport\, Scope Miami\, Flux Art Fair\, FiveMyles\, Rush Art Gallery\, and the Newark Museum. Her pieces have also been auctioned at Christie’s and Swann Auction Galleries. \n\nDriven by her passion for public art\, Tomo has received commissions from Columbia University in 2016\, MTA Arts and Design in 2018\, Governors Island in 2019\, the Swan Reserve Hotel in 2021\, and Mount Sinai Hospital in 2024.\n\nTomo has taught mixed-media exploration workshops for after-school and Saturday programs at Leroy Neiman Center/Art Horizon for 3 years.
