It will also provide a primer on copyright and rights of publicity\, and in particular discuss approaches to photography in public places. \nKey Topics / Focus Areas: \n\nBasics of contract law for artists\nGallery contracts\nCopyright basics\nRights of publicity\nPhotography in public places\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n About the Speakers: \n \nJo Backer Laird concentrated her practice on all aspects of art law\, working with artists\, private collectors\, museums\, art organizations and tax exempt organizations\, galleries\, dealers and advisors and financial institutions. Ms. Laird has extensive knowledge and experience in the full range of transactions and litigation issues related to works of art and the art market\, including auction and private sale agreements\, consignments\, financing arrangements using art as collateral\, commissions of art\, authenticity and title disputes\, artists’ rights and intellectual property\, and issues relating to World War II restitution and cultural property cases \nMs. Laird was named in The Top Art World Professionals by ARTnews multiple times and in Artnet Magazine‘s list of the Art World’s 10 Most Powerful Lawyers. She was also selected as one of the 2023 Top Women Leaders in Law by The New York Law Journal and New York Magazine. Chambers High Net Worth has recognized Ms. Laird as a Band 1 top-tier notable practitioner in the area of Art and Cultural Property Law\, and most recently honored her as a Senior Statesperson in this category. \nMs. Laird received her J.D. from Columbia Law School\, her M.P.A. from Princeton University\, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs\, and her A.B. from Princeton University. \n  \n \nStephanie Bunting Glaser is Counsel in Patterson Belknap’s Intellectual Property Transactions practice. Ms. Glaser advises arts and cultural organizations and other tax-exempt entities as well as for-profit companies and creators on a broad range of intellectual property matters\, with an emphasis on advising on complex copyright issues. She counsels clients on all aspects of copyright law\, including registration\, duration\, termination\, ownership\, copyrightability\, licensing\, infringement\, fair use and enforcement. \nMs. Glaser also helps clients protect their brands and register and enforce their trademarks and advises clients on best practices and policies to maximize trade secret protection. She counsels clients on online privacy issues\, including drafting privacy policies and privacy law compliance. \nIn addition to counseling\, Ms. Glaser negotiates intellectual property licenses and related commercial and art law agreements for a broad range of clients including artists\, artist-endowed foundations\, private foundations\, public charities\, galleries\, online and print publishers and global media and technology companies. \nHer transactional practice also involves advising on creative deal structuring\, contract negotiation and due diligence on the intellectual property aspects of larger corporate transactions such as mergers\, acquisitions\, joint ventures\, grants\, loans\, distribution agreements and strategic alliances. \nMs. Glaser received her J.D.\, cum laude\, from Harvard Law School and her B.A.\, summa cum laude\, from Hamilton College. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n
