Wilhelmina creates assemblages using mixed-media and found objects which she repurposes into visual art. Her artistic undertakings included assignments as artist-in-residence at The Ralph Lauren Cancer Center and as a Creative Center at University Settlement artist-in-residence wherein she used the arts to nurture the creativity of cancer patients\, their families\, and staff in a healthcare setting. She also guides elder participants through arts activities at senior centers in Washington Heights\, Upper East Side and Brooklyn. \nIn 2010 Wilhelmina was honored with three prestigious awards for art: The Black Art Makers Award of National Conference of Artists\, The Women’s History Month Creative Power of Women Award presented by New York State Senator Bill Perkins\, and The Alain Locke Art Action Award presented by The Harlem Arts Alliance. She was also a NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance) 2016 Uptown Arts Stroll Honoree. Wilhelmina is the founder of SISTAAH\, Inc. (Survivors Inspiring Sisters Through Art and Advocacy for Health)\, an arts-based non-profit organization which seeks to inform\, encourage and facilitate access to early detection of breast cancer by connecting the medically underserved to free screening services. Using SISTAAH\, Inc. as a platform\, Wilhelmina has launched numerous successful grant-funded community art projects: Saving Our Sisters in the African American Community\, the Harlem Hand Fan Initiative\, and O.Y.E. Open Your Eyes Community Art/Health Awareness Project. \nShe self-published her first book\, A Feeling of Fullness: Insights of a Divinely Guided Journey Beyond Breast Cancer (2016\, Xlibris Publishing Company) which chronicles the journey from the nearly-missed breast cancer diagnosis at age 37 through her present-day life as an artist/author/health awareness advocate. Her second book entitled Uplifting Cancer Survivors in the COVID Era: Expressions of Kindness and Inspiration Between Aunties and Nieces was released in October 2022. \nSome collectors of her artwork include: Alice Walker\, Bill Clinton\, The Heath Gallery\, and Hamilton Landmark Galleries. When she paints watercolor\, she finds freedom\, lighting her spirit. Perhaps because they are just sketches\, or the medium is easy to manage. Through these workshops she wants to share the joy and therapeutic nature of watercolor painting. \nTomo’s work has been exhibited in various venues like Columbia University\, Scope Miami\, Laundromat Project\, Rush Arts Galleries\, Governors Island\, Newark Museum\, Christie’s and Swann Auction Galleries. She received a commission from MTA and completed a laminated glass and metal installation in 2018. She participated in the Winter Workspace Residency at Wave Hill in early 2023. Her journey to writing began at the kitchen table listening to her grandmother’s stories. She holds a B.A. in Africana Studies from Brooklyn College\, and a MFA in Prose from Mills College. She has received awards from the New York Foundation of the Arts\, the Sustainable Arts Foundation and International Literary Seminars Kenya. She has also received residencies from Under the Volcano Mexico\, Atlantic Center for the Arts and Breadloaf Environmental Writers Conference. She has been published in several anthologies and journals\, including AGNI\, Asterix\, Kweli\, African Voices\, and Hispanic Theological Initiative. She was the 2024 Talk of the Town Resident Artist with El Museo and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. Some of her most enjoyable work has been facilitating writing and movement sessions with youth\, immigrants\, and elders in schools and community centers across NYC. Her free time is spent unrolling her yoga mat in random locations\, going to her son’s basketball games\, and turning everything into stories. She was also a NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance) 2016 Uptown Arts Stroll Honoree. Wilhelmina is the founder of SISTAAH\, Inc. (Survivors Inspiring Sisters Through Art and Advocacy for Health)\, an arts-based non-profit organization which seeks to inform\, encourage and facilitate access to early detection of breast cancer by connecting the medically underserved to free screening services. Using SISTAAH\, Inc. as a platform\, Wilhelmina has launched numerous successful grant-funded community art projects: Saving Our Sisters in the African American Community\, the Harlem Hand Fan Initiative\, and O.Y.E. Open Your Eyes Community Art/Health Awareness Project. \nShe self-published her first book\, A Feeling of Fullness: Insights of a Divinely Guided Journey Beyond Breast Cancer (2016\, Xlibris Publishing Company) which chronicles the journey from the nearly-missed breast cancer diagnosis at age 37 through her present-day life as an artist/author/health awareness advocate. Fun for all ages and and levels. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Artists: \n\n \nEdwin G. Cadiz holds a Masters in Science of Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. His colorful canvases\, collage and provocative designs grace many community spaces\, libraries\, offices and private homes. Cadiz has exhibited his work here in New York City and Latin America; bridging the gap of cultural experiences that is not only his birthright\, as a Puerto Rican\, but also the inspiration for his work. His well organized collage work and bright images capture not only his cultural heritage\, but his unique vision that\, like a prism\, creates a spectrum of colors. Thematic aspects of his work promote the tension created between historic reference\npoints and imagery that guides the viewer to his use of hands and faces integrating the resolve of humanity’s struggle for peace and harmony. He has produced over 50 collage pieces on Black History as one of his more popular subjects. As a multimedia visual artist he has undertaken many different ways to explore methods and materials including his pioneering work in the 1970’s with the creation of pieces using photoceramics that were exhibited in Latin America. He also was part of a team of students teaching silkscreen technique in the Dutch Antilles. Closer to home\, in 2000\, Cadiz designed one of the cows\, called “Tropicow” for the New York City CowParade exhibition. He also designed a “Tropidog” for the Art Unleashed in Lancaster\, Pennsylvania. \nCadiz received his early art training at Henry Street Settlement House where he was taught photography\, community mural making and ceramics. Most notably there are mosaic sculptures\, he was a part of designing as a youth at Henry Street Settlement\, that can still be viewed in the Lower East Side and at Grant’s Tomb. Years later\, he produced many murals with students of Louis Armstrong Middle School\, and worked with youth to create a mural at the People’s Headstart Program in Long Island City. He also taught art at the Children’s Art Carnival; the Greek American Institute and the College for Children Program at both Queens College and Laguardia Community College. Over the years\, he has continued to reemerge with his art through special commissions to produce art for public spaces\, residential treatment\nsettings and new housing developments. \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Sharon M. Cadiz is an educator\, writer and national speaker with a record of professional engagement that spans four decades. She is a fierce advocate for social justice and human rights\, as well a recognized authority on interpersonal trauma and its impact as a root cause of many issues such as substance use disorder; mental illness; suicidality; intimate partner violence and child abuse. Dr. Cadiz is a published author and former Director of Best Practice Implementation for Reality House; a community based treatment program for individuals struggling with issues of addiction\, mental health and interpersonal trauma. She is also the CEO of 747 Seminars which focuses on promoting projects and initiatives devoted to personal development\, wellness and holistic life management. Her poetry\, informed by her work and life experience\, embodies a sense of transcendent connection that honors the nobility of the human spirit and its capacity to endure and prevail. When these bombs are sown on the ground\, the seeds germinate naturally in the right environment and at the appropriate time. The coexistence of multiple species helps each one thrive naturally\, without chemical fertilizers.  \nThe United States of America is a nation of immigrants. Its government has been involved in many wars in countries that are the homelands of its citizens.These conflicts devastate the environment and create refugees who suffer from the effects of war.  \nThe Manhattan Project\, which aimed to build atomic bombs\, was an exciting and creative endeavor that brought together wisdom from around the world. It involved many people working collaboratively in the military-industrial-academic complex. Her graphite works range from precise anatomical storytelling and portraiture to quick captures of the streets that vibrate with energy and motion. In 2024\, her drawings have been shown in NYC exhibitions at The Factory\, Culture Lab LIC\, Diego Salazar\, The Atlantic\, and soon (Oct-Nov) Art on the Avenue.
