As The Children’s Art Carnival renews its role as a community hub for the arts, it continually updates its services for artists in to reflect their needs and aspirations in a changing Harlem cultural landscape. As a place for exploration and creativity, CAC has created a new track of arts service provision that places the individual artist at the center of its work. Our model is designed to support and nurture the development of emerging, mid-career, and established artists as key to developing its educational, outreach, and workshop offerings.
Establishing Your Artist Practice presents a series of professional development workshops aimed at providing information, skills, and technical resources to help artists in their efforts to establish a professional artist practice and how to better promote their work. Workshops in the past have focused on specific topics such as Marketing & Communications, Financial Literacy & Budgeting, and Health & Wellness.
CAC provides additional opportunities for west Harlem artists through its West Harlem Arts Initiative. West Harlem Arts exhibitions are planned and executed through a partnership with Centro Civico Cultural Dominicano (CCCD), the exhibition series features work and discussions by local artists from Community Board 9 and surrounding neighborhoods. Exhibitions are available for viewing in person by appointment as well as online. Artist talks are also be presented through online streaming platforms. Artists are selected through an open application and review process held on a bi-annual basis.

The Funhouse is a monthly festive get-together for the artists/ creative individuals of the Northern Manhattan area that will help them form, nurture and create a community of themselves (artists and creatives) in their geographic communities, Harlem, Inwood, and Washington Heights. Our goal is to make the Children’s Arts Carnival uptown headquarters for artists and creatives.
To help assemble this Uptown community of creatives, we will create a fun environment that will include all the elements needed to foster this network; the CAC’s backyard, food, beverages(beer, wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic), music, and some fun interactive creative activity.
The Funhouse will also double as an opportunity to raise funds for the Children’s Arts Carnival. We ask all of our guests for a suggested donation upon arrival at the Funhouse. These members of our newly formed creative community will also be educated on what the Children’s Art Carnival is all about and how they can be a part of it to educate and inspire the creative youth of our area to become the next generation of Uptown’s creative community.
