This welcoming class of teens, adults, and children with parents is “pencil positive”—fun and appropriate for artmakers of all levels:

  • Beginner: Learn to see with “artist eyes” and use pencils and makers to make beautiful drawings you are proud of!
  • Intermediate: For students with some experience who want to go further…Bring your own photos or receive subjects and style lessons to explore in class. Watch your talent start to shine!
  • Advanced: Get critique and help with a new or existing drawing—enhance your skills in composition, perspective, lighting, figure drawing, and narrative. Take your artistry higher!

Laura provides 1:1 instruction in an empowering group setting. Come regularly to make quick improvements with your drawing skills and artistry AND find new friends.

About the facilitator:

A resident of West Harlem since 2015, Laura King has a BS degree in environmental science and an extensive background in artmaking and teaching. She loves New York’s urban culture and color, while she is equally passionate about finding and celebrating nature in the city. Laura is a volunteer gardener at the Hamilton Grange, a certified animal rescuer, and an artist who takes delight in illuminating the natural beauty that can be found EVERYWHERE in our urban jungle. Her drawings express her love for nature on many levels, and she aims wholeheartedly to spark that joy and appreciation in her students, too.
