This class will introduce students to working with soy-based Akua inks to create monotypes. Monotypes are considered one of the most painterly forms of mark-making in printmaking. It is therefore a great class for those working in painting, as it offers both a painterly approach to a print medium, and an introduction to working in printmaking.

About the Instructor: Devin N. Morris is interested in abstracting American life and subverting traditional value systems through the exploration of racial and sexual identity in mixed media paintings, photographs, writings, and videos. Devin N. Morris’s works present innocent and kind recollections of memories within surreal landscapes and elaborate, draped environments that reimagine the social boundaries imposed on interactions between friends, romantic partners, and family. Morris’s process of making is driven by improvisation and responding to changing environments where space, kinship, social interrogation, and available materials are explored and reflected.
