Radical Arts Education: Youth Development and the Children’s Art Carnival
This special program explores the radical educational vision of the Children’s Art Carnival, from its beginnings at MoMA in 1942 to its transformation into the Harlem Children’s Arts Carnival in 1969. Dr. Kecia Hayes and Sara Torres-Vega will examine the Carnival’s connections to youth development, community organizing, the social movements of the 1960s and 1970s, and New York City public education.
